Knee Replacements On The Up-tick
March 19th, 2013
The number of knee replacement surgeries is on the rise. Both total and partial knee replacements, performed in the United States has increased significantly in recent years, with totals expected to continue multiplying for years to come. Some 600,000 total knee replacement procedures were performed in the U.S. last year alone and the demand is expected to rise to as high as 3.48 million knee replacement procedures per year by 2030. Dr. David Ernst, knee replacement surgeon at Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, says the upgrades in technology has allowed these procedures to continue to advance. Knee replacement allows for a short hospital stay, followed by a series of physical therapy sessions, allows the patient to recuperate at home and be back to normal activity within a few months.(depending on the individual) Orthopedic Associates is located at 940 River Centre Dr in Port Huron.
