XIAFLEX® Injections
At Orthopedic Associates of Port Huron, we are dedicated to providing patients with the latest evidence-based treatment options, which is why we proudly offer XIAFLEX injections to patients suffering from Dupuytren’s contracture.
Performed by our board-certified sports medicine specialist, Dr. Rajesh Makim, XIAFLEX is an advanced treatment option that provides relief without surgery and gets patients back to enjoying the activities they love.
What Is Dupuytren’s Contracture?
Dupuytren’s contracture is a hand deformity that slowly progresses over time and affects the tissue within the palm. As it progresses, knots of tissue start to form and build up until a thick cord is created that pulls the fingers into a curved position, limiting their mobility and making them unable to be straightened.
While there are both nonsurgical and surgical treatment options available to treat this condition, nonsurgical care, such as XIAFLEX injections, is recommended first to provide relief and treat the condition. However, in severe cases, surgery may be required.
What Is XIAFLEX?
XIAFLEX is a nonsurgical treatment option that is used to treat Dupuytren’s contracture and provide patients with relief.
Injected straight into the collagen cord, XIAFLEX does the following:
- Allows patients to avoid surgery
- Brings mobility back to the affected fingers
- Provides relief within a few days
- Works to break down the cord by targeting the collagen
